How My Dog Lilah Shows Her Love
TweetWhen Lorraine from Husky House went to Louisiana to pull some “Husky” puppies from a high kill shelter, she found a solid black pup mixed in with the group. “She’s part of the litter,” they told her. Dubious, but always willing to save a life, Lorraine brought home the whole group.
I met the two puppies — the last of the litter — at a foster home, and I could tell these two were meant to be together. I adopted them both.
It was among the best decisions I ever made, as Jasper’s support for Lilah helped her conquer her demons: her extreme anxiety and skittishness. (Read about it in my story, Lilah Becoming Brave.) In return, Lilah comforts Jasper when he’s worried, and cleans his ears as a tender way of showing her concern — and her love.
The photo below captures the special relationship between Jasper and Lilah.
Both Jasper and Tucker — and sometimes the cats — will sit still and let Lilah minister to their ears. They lean into it, eyes half closed, as if they are absorbing the kindness and affection that Lilah so generously offers everyone she meets.
Usually I can tell when a photo is best in black and white, but every once in a while I encounter a picture that works in color as well. The photos seem to tell different stories when they’re in full color.
In that spirit, I’m adding a color version to this post.
I think the black-and-white picture reflects a simpler, more pure emotion.
Yet there’s something about the warmth of the sun in the color version that expresses the warmth of the moment.
What do you think? Which one do you like better and why?

Such a sweet moment that you captured. I see what you mean about the additional warmth of the color photo although it is too hard for me to choose!!
I know! That’s why I couldn’t post just one; they both tell different stories.
Love the contrast! Looks like someone is telling secrets! 🙂
Thanks! Yes, sometimes I suspect secrets are shared and world domination is being planned. 😉
Its such a beautiful and touching photo and I agree, the black and white is made beautiful because of the lighting, but in the color photo the lighting gives it so much warmth. Great story about the two dogs, obviously not from the same litter. Love Dolly
Thanks Dolly! I so enjoy watching the two dogs together. It always makes me smile. <3
What a sweet story and photos!
Thank you!
A lot of love there, fur sure!
Usually, our mom votes for the B&W, but she likes both of these. Such a heart-warming moment. So nice to know that it is repeated often and appreciated by the recipients. XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo
So sweet!
