Photo: Shadows of love

Shadow dogs from Life with Dogs and Cats

A dog’s love is true and sure, patient and clear — and everlasting.

Even stripped of color and dimension in a black-and-white photograph, the shadows of dogs and their human carries that depth of feeling — illuminating emotion and intimacy through the closeness of a body, the leaning in of a head, the perk of an ear.

Do you ever find that photos of shadows, or the backs of your pets carry more emotional impact?

Shadow photos are some of my favorites.

    • Mine too. I have a whole series of pictures I took during a trip to Israel, which is nothing but shadows: leaves, camels, architecture. I think the flatness of shadows allows more emotion to come through.

Beautiful. I love that all heads are turned towards you. That tells me that your dogs are very in tune with you (and you probably have a treat). That kind of connection takes work. Great photo on so many levels.
