Dog with Stick: Sitting Just Quietly Under the Trees
Tweet
In one of my favorite childhood books, Ferdinand the Bull by Munro Leaf, the main character doesn’t want run and jump and butt their heads together. Instead he likes to sit just quietly under the trees and smell the flowers.
Lilah reminds me a lot of Ferdinand; she’s silent and peaceful, a zen dog who is content in the moment, to just be.
One of the reasons I enjoy living with three dogs is that I watch them experience the world through three completely different perspectives.
Peripatetic and tightly-wound Tucker lives for thrill of the chase and the fun of the game.
Jasper — our comfort hound — is everybody’s best friend, even if he just met you 30 seconds ago.
And Lilah is content to sit just quietly under the trees and shred sticks.
Do your pets remind you of any book characters?

It looks like a great stick to chew!
It is. Just the right size.
sticks are best when we enjoy them on a comfy place…. and it needs time to make matches from a big stick :o)
Exactly. That’s Lilah’s favorite thing. Though Jasper and Tucker like to make matchsticks, too.
sweet photo!
Aw. Thank you!
Lilah is a sweetie. I”ll have to think about your question…
Thanks. She is a sweet dog.
I love Ferdinand the Bull! All of my dogs and cats reminded me of a book characters. That’s why they are the source of inspiration for The Returns series. LOL!
Of course!
Oooh! The snow looks cold!! Great picture 🙂
True, but for a black dog like Lilah, it’s wonderful. She suffers in the hot sun of summer.
She really does look pleased with that stick!
She is very pleased — and not sharing!
Great photo- I love the black and white contrast.
Thank you!
What a sweet pic. Interesting how each dog can have a different perspective of a stick.
RIght! Such a simple thing, but they each look at it differently.
Ferdinand! Love that book!!! Delilah is our Ferdinand.
Love it. I always identified with Ferdinand. Yay Delilah!
What a beautiful photo! How I wish we had at least one “Ferdinand” in our pack :-).
Thanks. I think Lilah’s gentle nature is good for everyone — dogs, cats, humans — in the house.
My sisters and I are also all very different, but have a lot of similar traits too.
😀 That’s why we love our dogs!
Love the contrast in this photo!
Thank you!
Ah yes, Ferdinand. One of our favorites! I’m probably most like Oliver Twist: “Please, Sir, can I have some more?” *wags* Gilligan from WagsAhoy.com
Good line. I think my Jasper would be most like Oliver, too!
Lilah, what a beautiful picture of you.
Nothing like a great stick, I say!
So cute!
