Cat Lesson #32 in how to toy with your human: stare intently at nothing

Lesson #32 in how to toy with your human: stare intently at nothing

Last night, Athena spent several minutes staring intently into a corner of the kitchen.

My curiosity piqued, I knelt down to mirror her perspective to see if I could figure out what the cat was looking at. I moved the porcelain stand. Nothing. Listened at the vent. Nothing.

I turned around to look at Athena.

She had disappeared, most likely slinking off to a perfect vantage point from which a cat could laugh at the human crawling around on the floor.

Works for dogs, too.

What does your pet do that makes you look silly?

  4. I agree that’s a clever trick! I sometimes pretend that I lost something behind the bed… you should see them when they search with a flashlight for nothing… while I build a comfy nest with the bedding :o)

My Athena does that all the time. This morning she was actually looking at something though. A spider in the corner of the ceiling I couldn’t see because it was still dark. It wasn’t too big, thank god.

  7. Mom says they always looked at the light, no idea why. Or she’d look out the window to see what they saw. Not a chance. Love Dolly

  8. Emma says:

If you had the nose of a cat or dog, you would be amazed at what kind of smells are coming out of that vent! Mom has learned a lot about how odors travel, vents are very interesting.

  9. Rita played this game with me just today. We’re zooming along on the freeway, and she starts growling and staring intently at something in the median. There was nothing there – I know, cuz I looked and looked!
