Photo: Cat on a windowsill

Dawn, the cat on a windowsill
You’ve heard of the cat on a hot tin roof. How about cat on a high narrow windowsill?
Dawn found her way to that elevated position a few times. She would probably go up there more often except there is a downside to that particular place in our house.
The downside is there is no easy way down.
To get to the winowsill, Dawn hops up on the back of chair, jumps to the top of the bookcase you see in the background and steps onto the very thin, very slender sill. It’s so narrow that there is no way to turn around. She cannot go back the way she came.
Therefore, Dawn must leap all the way to the ground. And while she does it gracefully, I think the height is a just a tad more than the cat feels comfortable with.
Finalist in photo contest
There’s a special reason I chose this photo today. The color version has been picked as a finalist in Hauspanther’s Cats Climbing High photo contest. The winner gets a gift certificate to ContempoCat.com.
Apparently there were more than a thousand entries, and our little Dawn made it to the finals. Kate Benjamin, the woman behind Hauspanther, says there were so many, she couldn’t choose just one, so she’s asking people to vote.
Voting is open for one week only. If you have a minute or two this week, please stop by the site and vote for our Dawn. (She’s in Photo #1.) She has her eyes on the climbing pole that will help her get down from that window sill. If we win the grand prize, we’ll be able to put a shelf up there for her, too.
Do your cats (or dogs) like to climb? (Our dog Kelsey, from long ago loved hanging out on the back of our couch, just like a cat!)

What a cute picture! Congrats on being a finalist. I’ll go and vote. She’s a daring little kitty. 🙂
Thanks! Dawn (and the rest of the gang) really appreciate it.
She gets the good view from up there.
She most certainly does. She just has a bit of a challenge getting down. ;-D
We just voted. It’s close, but Dawn is currently in the lead with 88 votes. Good luck.
Thank you! The last time I looked the other cat on a windowsill–the one silhouetted–was in first and we were 4th.
Congratulations on a great photo!
Aw, thanks! Dawn thinks it’s great, too!
Cute picture. Cat’s and their amazing climbing skills always amazes me, my neighbor has an outdoor cat that she feeds occasionally, she’ll somehow manage to get up on my deck which is about 15 feet off the ground. I catch her lying up there, basking in the sun, relaxing. My morning routine includes going out there and saying good morning with a nice petting session. I have no idea how she manages to get down, but she always does.
They are pretty amazing, aren’t they? So nice of you to spend some time with the cat. I’m sure she appreciates it. I’ll be she comes up there not just for the sun, but for the petting.
Now that’s talent!
For sure. Particularly because she had to figure out how to get down. =^..^=
That is a terrific photo. We’ll be sure and vote for you. We are pretty surprised that Dawn hasn’t tried backing up. Though, guess she still wouldn’t have been able to jump backwards. Our angel, Steamer, used to get on the top of doors. Hope you win the contest so that Dawn can have a shelf. XO, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo
Thanks for the vote!
BTW, Dawn did try backing up. It was pretty funny because she’d back up until her little feet found that there was nothing but air to step on. Then she’d go forward. And then backward again. It took her several tries to realize it wasn’t going to change. I wish I had that on video because it was pretty funny.
Pawsome! We will vote 🙂 Sugar’s BFF loves to climb too and its amazing to watch them. Happy Sunday. Golden Woofs
Thanks so much. And happy birthday to Sugar!
Wow, Dawn! That is quite a feat. We’ll go vote now. 🙂
That’s really impressive!
That really is a great photo and we went over and voted!

I just tried to vote but it seems the voting has closed. Great pic, though! Happy Sunday! 🙂 xo
Mr. N likes to be on tall places but he sometimes needs an assist.
We want Dawn to have her own shelf to get down from that sill safely. We’re off to vote!
Congratulations on the nomination its a great photo. Mom misses those days of finding out just where the cats could get up to! Love Dolly
Cats really are crazy creatures!
Dawn is so cute! She sounds a lot like my cat, Lilly. Lilly is always climbing things and getting stuck. LOL One of her favorite places is on top of the fridge and if she can she will hop to the tops of cabinets and hang out there.
That is awesome Dawn! Concatulations! She looks very majestic up there.
Wow, Dawn sure is high up there! That’s a great shot…good luck in the contest.
Hi Susan. Great photo! I tried to vote for your photo but there was no form at the bottom of the page with which to do so.
CONGRATULATIONS ’bout the photo contest! Many, MANY congratulations, for sure.
Oh yeah… It’s the same with climbin’ trees. Easy to get up there but… well… you know… Down is just always so darned far down. You know? Yeah, you already know.
Purrs,

Hi Y’all!
Good luck Dawn! That perch is worth my vote, let me tell you!
Y’all come back now,
Hawk aka BrownDog
When our cat gets in predicaments like this she cried until I get a step stool and help her down. Is she spoiled? Why would you ask?
cries not cried. It has happened more than once.
You are one adventurous girl, Dawn! Happy Black and White Sunday, and congratulations on being chosen as a finalist!
Great photo. Good luck with the contest.
Cool picture! We voted! Good Luck!
Great balance!
It is very impressive, isn’t it?
Wow, very impressive, Dawn! That looks like a cool hangout. We are heading over to go vote for your photo right now!! Best of luck!
