Thankful for my cats

Life with Cats
jellybean paws
tread softly, land gently
except when they don’t
mews and meows
meps, merps and owels
conversation without words
silky head rubs
figure eights among my feet
warm soft strokable fur
sweet intricate noses
from stretched-out necks
inhaling, absorbing scent and soul
twitchy excited tails
bumper car verticals
curvey, sensuous question marks
ears forward, intent
whiskers itching, vibrating
pounce coiled and primed
intensity barely contained
eyes wide, anticipating
then: a leap of faith
serious silliness
chasing feathers and nothing
followed by instant nonchalance
welcome slow blinks
slight turning of heads
panther walks of greeting
sputtering rumbling purr
the sound of love
given freely
