Dog and Cat Winter Games
TweetWIth three dogs and four cats in our home, there’s always something entertaining to watch: from reality shows (Who will get voted off the couch?) to soap operas (bath time is always fun).
Sports are a big thing, too. I’ve written in the past about my dogs and cats as competitive sleepers, but there’s so much more.
Welcome to the winter games at Life with Dogs and Cats.
Let me introduce you to some of our featured dog-letes and cat-letes, along with the events they excel in.
Curling

Tucker is a champion curler. He’ll curl in a dog bed, on a couch, next to me—just about anywhere.
Calvin is also a champion curler, though his preferred venue is the couch or a dog bed.
Snow Bored

Really deep snow presents a bit of a challenge to Lilah, so that’s when she brings out her snow bored.

While Elsa Clair is sometimes more of a spectator, she’ll strap on a snow bored when the birds and squirrels aren’t performing for her.
Freestyle swatting

This is one of Calvin’s best events. He keeps his blades sharpened so he can practice anywhere.
Lounge

Jasper’s favorite event is the lounge. For him it goes beyond sport into an art form. His long legs give him a decided advantage here.

Athena dominates the kitchen floor with her lounge run.

Calvin’s lines are purr-fect as he demonstrates one of the best ways to lounge: on a cat scratcher.

Athena and Calvin team up for the two-cat lounge event.
Stair jumping

Calvin is at the top of the bannister, ready for his run.

Elsa Clair has her game face on; she does not like to be bested by her brother.
Cross Country Stick

Tucker likes to use a less traditional stick for his races. It doesn’t slow him down at all.

No snow is necessary to compete in cross country stick. Jasper shows off his winning run.
Short Lap Speed Snoozing

Dawn demonstrates her style as she takes up an entire lap.

Calvin shows off his short lap style, fitting in between me and my laptop.
Figure sleeping

Elsa Clair demonstrates one of her best moves: Broccoli paws in the tucked position.

Athena can always count on the judges loving her double tucked paws in the layout position.

Calvin always earns extra points for artistic value with his double cute crossed paws tail tuck with a half twist.

Competitive sleeping is not just for cats. Tucker wows the audience when he pulls off the elusive upside down quadruple stretchy paw with a half twist.
Sniff Half The Lawn (Sound it out.)

This is one of the few canine-only events. It’s a team effort, with Lilah, Jasper, and Tucker pulling together for complete coverage.

Part of the Sniff Half The Lawn includes a synchronized sniff. Notice the parallel tail positions. I think the dogs nailed it here.
Soon the snow will be gone, and the weather will warm up. Then the dogs and cats will start preparing for the summer games:
Boxing

Calvin (and most of the other cats) are champion boxers.
Fencing

Jasper and Lilah practice their fencing moves. They’re always “on guard.”
