Cat Video: Calvin Plays Catch that Dog

Tucker the dog with his tongue hanging out

Last week, when I told the story of Tucker and how I inadvertently lodged his ball an unreachable part of a tree,  there was a part I left out.

While I did note that it was heartbreaking to watch him run in erratic circles frantically looking for his ball, what I didn’t say was that the first thing I did was what any blogger worth her salt would do.

I recorded it.

In the midst of my befuddled terrier’s most terrible, horrible, no good, very bad moment, I pulled out my iPhone to capture the moment.

Yes. I did.

For a minute or two I tried to explain to Tucker — while I was recording, mind you — that his ball was in the tree. I pointed to it. Pretended to throw an imaginary ball in the direction of the real one.

He didn’t understand.

Eventually, I fell silent and watched him search.

When I realized how distressed my dog was, I put the phone away and attempted to retrieve his ball, unsuccessfully. Feeling terrible about the grief I caused him, I gave up pretty quickly, and brought in a substitute ball.

Later, when I was writing the post, I reviewed the footage of Tucker searching, thinking I would include it in the post. But unless you knew Tucker, it would be hard for a viewer to understand what was going on. All you could see was a dog running around the yard, nose to the ground, tail in the air  — wagging in anticipation of his toy’s recovery.

The second time I played the video, Calvin leapt up onto my desk.

A tiny dog zigged and zagged all over my screen, his collar jingling.

Calvin was entranced. He smacked at the mini Tucker running in circles. “Wow! A cat game!”

Maybe I should develop the game and sell it. Hmmm…

He swatted again. “I have to catch that dog!”

And of course, I did what any blogger worth her salt would do.

I recorded him.

A cat video of a cat playing with a dog video. Welcome to life with dogs and cats.

Hee hee hee! We lub to watch animals on momma’s computer – but we don’t ‘pat’ at em, so it was cute to see this! Thanks for sharing!

  3. Julia says:

That is funny! Our cat will sit on the entertainment stand and etch the LED TV while she’s just about an inch away from it. I can’t imagine she sees anything meaningful but it is very interesting to watch.

Maybe I should show her a video of Delta running around – Shady could turn the tables and take a couple whacks at the dog for once!

  4. Patty says:

My Sherpa will do this if he sees something moving on my laptop. They are so funny, aren’t they?

  5. Carleen says:

FUNNY! Did you manage to retrieve the ball? Whenever a commercial comes on t.v. I’ll tell Henry ‘t.v. doggie’ and he runs up to the screen and starts barking.
