Cat Video: Calvin Plays Catch that Dog
TweetLast week, when I told the story of Tucker and how I inadvertently lodged his ball an unreachable part of a tree, there was a part I left out.
While I did note that it was heartbreaking to watch him run in erratic circles frantically looking for his ball, what I didn’t say was that the first thing I did was what any blogger worth her salt would do.
I recorded it.
In the midst of my befuddled terrier’s most terrible, horrible, no good, very bad moment, I pulled out my iPhone to capture the moment.
Yes. I did.
For a minute or two I tried to explain to Tucker — while I was recording, mind you — that his ball was in the tree. I pointed to it. Pretended to throw an imaginary ball in the direction of the real one.
He didn’t understand.
Eventually, I fell silent and watched him search.
When I realized how distressed my dog was, I put the phone away and attempted to retrieve his ball, unsuccessfully. Feeling terrible about the grief I caused him, I gave up pretty quickly, and brought in a substitute ball.
Later, when I was writing the post, I reviewed the footage of Tucker searching, thinking I would include it in the post. But unless you knew Tucker, it would be hard for a viewer to understand what was going on. All you could see was a dog running around the yard, nose to the ground, tail in the air — wagging in anticipation of his toy’s recovery.
The second time I played the video, Calvin leapt up onto my desk.
A tiny dog zigged and zagged all over my screen, his collar jingling.
Calvin was entranced. He smacked at the mini Tucker running in circles. “Wow! A cat game!”
He swatted again. “I have to catch that dog!”
And of course, I did what any blogger worth her salt would do.
I recorded him.

That was wonderful. Just what I needed on this snowy, locked in the house day.
Thank you! Calvin is a very entertaining and amusing little cat!
Hee hee hee! We lub to watch animals on momma’s computer – but we don’t ‘pat’ at em, so it was cute to see this! Thanks for sharing!
You’re welcome! Glad you enjoyed it. And I think you’re smart not to pat Momma’s computer. You wouldn’t want to muck up her screen. 😉
That is funny! Our cat will sit on the entertainment stand and etch the LED TV while she’s just about an inch away from it. I can’t imagine she sees anything meaningful but it is very interesting to watch.
Maybe I should show her a video of Delta running around – Shady could turn the tables and take a couple whacks at the dog for once!
Exactly! That’s why I thought this was so funny. A large cat trying to “catch” a tiny dog.
My Sherpa will do this if he sees something moving on my laptop. They are so funny, aren’t they?
One of the reasons we love them so much — they are so amusing — better than TV much of the time! 😀
H! That is cute!!!
😀
Very cute. I hear DogTV is free this week. It seems like Calvin would like it!
Oh goodness. Calvin would definitely love it!
FUNNY! Did you manage to retrieve the ball? Whenever a commercial comes on t.v. I’ll tell Henry ‘t.v. doggie’ and he runs up to the screen and starts barking.
Yes, my husband rescued the ball. You can read the story Ball is Lost: Tucker Faces His Worst Nightmare/a>.
This video made my snowy and extremely frozen day..
Aw, thanks. Happy we could make you smile. We’ve had all the winter fun in the past 24 hours: ice, snow, sleet, freezing rain.
HAHA!!! So clever!!! I loved it! : )
Thank you!:-D
Oh hysterical that you video’d the cat playing with the dog video. And, that Willy (my dog) was sleeping on my lap and woke up to watch! I wish I knew how to video! haha.
Oh wow! That would have been incredible. A video of dog watching a video of a cat watching a video of a dog. Mind = blown!
What a fantastic video! My cats do things like this – they just LOVE chasing the mouse on my screen!
We think you have a ‘Hit’ on your hands or paws, hahameow!
Nothing better than a good pun — unless it’s a pun about pets. I bet the feline is mutual. 😉
That is too funny! Glad you were able to record it — it certainly gave me a laugh. 🙂
Lol! That is too funny! Sherman gets the same way when he can’t find his football!
Our kitties would love that game….they like to tease next door’s dogs through the fence, so this would be the next best thing.
