Story: 2014 Petties Pet Blog Award Finalist for Best Overall Pet Blog!
TweetExciting news! Life with Dogs and Cats has been named a finalist for Best Overall Pet Blog in The Petties, the awards sponsored by Dogtime.
This is our first time as a finalist and we’re very honored.
You can tell by the reactions of the dogs:
My cats are even more excited:
Seriously though, it’s a phenomenal feeling just to be among the finalists–some of which are great blogs that I follow, and a few pawsome new ones that I just learned about.
Controversy at the Petties
As is often true with people-related awards, this year’s Petties was not without some controversy. Apparently there was some kind of technical glitch–I don’t know the details so I can’t address them exactly–but the result was that the original list of finalists was incorrect.
I believe I wasn’t on that original list. I knew the Petties finalists were going to be announced on July 5. Somehow I forget (can’t imagine how!) and didn’t check until the 8th. I didn’t see Life with Dogs and Cats listed in any of the categories, so I thought, “Okay, I guess we didn’t make it this year. I’ll try again next year,” and then spent some time exploring the different finalists. Some I was familiar with, and some I was not; they were all very worthy of nominations.
I was completely unaware of the issue until my friend Emily over at Kitty Cat Chronicles (a finalist as well for Best Video Post) congratulated me on my nomination. I was about to correct her, when I thought maybe I should check the site one more time. Perhaps somehow (can’t imagine how!) I missed our listing. Sure enough, there we were. I clicked on some of the links to the other blogs and began reading some of their posts about being nominated. That’s when I learned about the techno-snafu.
Paws to consider (4 of ’em)
My feelings are a little mixed.
On the one paw, I’m thrilled to be a finalist in the Petties, just to be included among all the other fantastic blogs.
On the other paw, I feel really bad about the folks who thought they were finalists and now they’re not. That has to be a major bummer. If you’re the blogger for one of those sites, let me know, and I’ll find a way to highlight your good work here on Life with Dogs and Cats.
On the third paw, I’m not usually one to participate in online popularity contests. And I will need to ask people to vote repeatedly. It would feel like I’m pushing my friends, fans and family too much, which I don’t like to do. I’m just happy you read my words.
Yet, on the fourth paw, enough of you voted to make this blog a finalist, so I would feel like I’m doing a disservice to my fans if I didn’t at least try to get votes.
And on the tail (actually the best part), winners get to choose a rescue organization that will receive a $1000 donation. Think of all the lives we can save!
So, I’ll post “please vote” notes when and where I can, providing some gentle reminders here and there. And I promise to try not to be intrusive or annoying. I’ll continue to post the content you love (and I love to create) and keep the voting requests in balance.
Vote if you like us
In the meantime, faithful fans, if I’ve made you smile, laugh, wag or purr, please take a moment and vote for Life with Dogs and Cats as Best Overall Pet Blog, as many times as you’d like, until August 7. Vote early and vote often.
And thanks, truly, for all your support.

That whole technical shut-down had us confused until we noticed that the finalist names had changed. We were so excited to see your blog there and especially Kitty Cat Chronicles and others that we love. We are voting efurryday, and we are voting for you! XO, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo
Congrats on your nomination. We admit, the Petties did get screwed up this year which is a little disconcerting to all, but we wish you luck. And we know the big winners will be the shelters that get the donations!
I am right there with you on your feelings about the Petties. I’m super excited that enough people thought of my blog and nominated us, but I feel bad for those that got the tease of thinking they were finalists and then not being finalists anymore. But winning a $1000 donation to a shelter of my choice is a great incentive to ask for votes! That could do so much good for any shelter that wins. Concatulations again!
Congratulations!!!
Susan, you know I was stripped of three noms including Best Pet Blog and have made my peace by blogging about it. Please know I am voting for you. Thanks for offering to share the good work I’m doing on behalf of shelter cats. Every Wednesday, I do a shelter report and adoption PSA at Cat Wisdom 101.
