Haiku by Dog: Deep

Haiku by Dog: stopping to ponder / life's meaning: snow may be deep, / but I am deeper

Today’s haiku is by Lilah.

I often wonder what Lilah is thinking.

Her soulful eyes reflect an intelligence that never ceases to amaze me. A great judge of character, she seeks out calm and centered people; it’s a great compliment if she sleeps on your feet. She’s always one step ahead of the other dogs, and knows how to get them to do what she wants, tricking Tucker out of a toy, or making him run in circles just by pouncing at him. And she’s the first one to check on me or any other family member — human, canine or feline — if we’re sad or hurt.

So when she sits quietly and looks at me, I would love to know what she’s thinking. Pondering the meaning of existence. Solving world hunger or lasting peace.

Or maybe she’s just wondering how she’s going to pee in snow this deep.

What do your pets think about?
