Haiku by Dog: hidden among leaves / quiet dogged observer / canine birdwatcher

Today’s Haiku is by Lilah.

More than a dozen bird feeders are scattered around our shade garden. Platform feeders, hanging feeders, suet feeders–they’re all different, and designed to attract specific clientele. Our family room window overlooks the garden; during daylight hours, it’s like an entertainment center permanently tuned to the Bird, Chipmunk and Squirrel Channel. Both dogs and cats love to watch.

When we all go outside (and it’s my favorite place to work when it’s warm out), Jasper, Lilah and Tucker like to stay close. When I set myself up to work in the shade, someone will often hop up onto the patio wall. In this case, that someone is Lilah–who, because she is patient and quiet–will often be rewarded with the sight of birds flying and hopping within just a few feet of her snout.

She’d do any human birdwatcher proud.

  3. We love to watch the birdies. But we watch from inside. The mom has several feeders out and we have to remind her to keep them filled.

  4. That’s a beautiful photo! Lilah is a gorgeous girl. We love watching birds too, Lilah. We wish Mom and Dad would put out more bird feeders!!!

Lilah looks so pretty watching and waiting here : )

  6. Kitties Blue says:

That is an incredible number of feeders. We only have three, and Dad says the birds are going to send us to the poor house. They are eating about 35 pounds a seed per week, and it isn’t even winter yet. Your setting looks so idyllic. We would love to spend some time there with you. Lilah is a true beauty! And I’m not just saying that because she looks a lot like my dog Tidbit. 🙂
