The Beast at the Bottom of the Stairs, or My Cat Waiting for Dinner

Elsa Clair awaits at the bottom of the stairs

Elsa Clair aka “the beastling” aka “the tiny dragon”

Every once in awhile, I take a photo and I know instantly it would look great in black and white. Without the distraction of color, the viewer can focus on the emotion in a picture. The drama. The story.

This photo of my cat Elsa Clair waiting at the bottom of the stairs is a perfect example. (And yes, just then, I resisted the op-purr-tunity to use a purr-fectly good pun. The first time.)

It’s not the friendliest of looks Elsa Clair has there. More than likely she was waiting for her dinner and I had the audacity to be upstairs instead of in the kitchen preparing her food. She was impatient. Indignant. Downright irate.

When I cropped the photo and used the black and white filter, the tension in the picture became more pronounced.

An image of a movie poster came to mind instantly.

And I had to. I just had to.
