Black and White Sunday

Two cats enjoying the sun in winter

With snow still covering the ground, two cats find enough sun–and enough space–to share. Normally, these two (Elsa Clair and Athena) are not that happy in each other’s presence.  Add a little warmth, and everyone seems to get along.

How do your pets get along with each other?

This is part of a Black and White Sunday blog hop. Take a look at some of the other great photos in the blogs below.

Our older cat has some little spats with everyone….dog and cat. But he still wants to be around everyone all the time, even though when he was younger he kept to himself.
At least we’re getting more sun coming in the windows, even if there’s still too much cold and snow outside!

This is such a wonderful photograph. It’s true … we think humans AND animals alike get a little cranky when winter drags on. Yay for sunpuddles. 😉

  3. Glad they were able to share a little sun. Happy Sunday!

Sunshine wins out over snarls…good thinking.

  5. Great capture of the cats’ attitudes–a little wary, respectful of each other’s space, but calm and collected. Cats are wonderful creatures 🙂

We have seven dogs, all rescues; four came to us as adults, some quite old already, so achieving good vibes in the pack has been a challenge–continues to be, in fact; I have a dog trainer coming over next weekend to help iron out a few wrinkles. It’s a daily, moment-to-moment, thing. Lots of observation, lots of sixth sense to “feel” when an attitude is beginning to go awry, lots of treats to deflect attention, lots of guts to intervene when the treats don’t work. But watching them eat together mornings and evenings and respect each other’s space in spite of the temptation… Well. Makes it all worth it 🙂

    • That’s awesome! Rescuing “older” dogs is such a great thing, and I’m so happy you’re taking the time to integrate them right. What I found particularly exciting about your comment is that idea that you need to observe and develop a sense about things just about to go awry. I had to develop that sense when two of my dogs had a strained relationship; once I knew what to look for–a certain posture, a look–we never had a problem, because I could distract and change the atmosphere. Good for you on all accounts!

  6. A little sun makes everything better! That’s a great photo – love the contrast with b/w window behind the b/w cat!

I myself hate our cats (who’s living in our barn), but I can’t eat them my mom told me. So I do not get along at all with them.

    • I’m glad you don’t eat the cats. Before we had our current crew, the two dogs in the family felt that cats were meant to be chased and barked at. Our neighbor’s cats knew that and would sit in the driveway on the other side of the fence and groom themselves while my two pups worked themselves into a frenzy. I think the cats enjoyed it. 😉

    Stunning photograph!

  9. Beautiful black and white, my gang all gets along and even gets along with the cat.

    • That’s great! All four of my cats and three of my dogs get along, but the cats need their space. The two in this picture would rather there be a lot of space between them, or someone is likely to swat someone else just on general principles.

  10. A little sunshine works like magic. It is funny how they are both sitting in the only beam available. Bentley & Pierre get along wonderfully but Pierre will be moving back with his mom (my daughter) at the end of the summer. I think Bentley knows he is just a temp and so he lets him share the love. BOL! Bark More, Growl Less Barking from the Bayou!

  11. We have a cat and a dog and they are the BEST of friends!!! Love your photo! Stop by and visit us some time, you might just enjoy yourself! MOL!

  12. What a beautiful photo…In our house everyday is an adventure in “getting along”.

  13. Ahhhh! Sun is the equalizer! 🙂

  14. Awww…..sunshine and warmth just makes everything better!

  15. Who found the best spot? Sugar loves Winter SUNSHINE. Happy Black n White Sunday. Golden Woofs

  16. Onyxx and Mr. N get along very well thankfully. I have to intervene every once in a while for minor things. Onyxx tries to steal Mr. N’s food and Mr. N is very persistant about wanting to play when Onyxx wants to nap.

  17. That is a great photo, my cat is an only pet so he pretty well has the run of the house and any sunny spot he wants!

    enjoy your sunpuddles!
