Photo: Sad Dogs; Grandma is Leaving

Tucker, Lilah and Jasper are sad that grandma is leaving

The welcoming ceremony begins with a fanfare of barks. Followed by a chorus of moans and happy cries.  Tails are held high, waving in greeting.

When my mom visits, my dogs are there to greet her like a beloved visitor from another country.

She comes bearing gifts of extra love and snuggles.  Attention and petting. And treats she sometimes sneaks under the table.

Which is why, when she leaves, there is sadness in the land. Tails lowered to half-mast. Eyes focused and sad. Quiet sighs.

This is how Tucker, Lilah and Jasper looked as my mom drove away after visiting us for Rosh Hashanah recently.

I assured them that Grandma would be back, but they continued to stare at the empty driveway. Jasper looked back at me and humphed.

“Anyone want to go outside?”

A dozen paws scrambled to the back door, tails aloft and wagging once more.

How soon they forget…

Do your pets have a ceremony when company comes? Any special welcome for favorite visitors?

  6. So cute. Phod loves everyone. Hailey has favourites, my mom and sister being her 2 very favourite. She goes crazy when they visit!

  7. We aren’t as fond of humans coming to our house.

    • I can understand that. Three of my cats feel the same way. Athena, on the other paw, is right there with the dogs greeting everyone who walks in the door. I think she wants to be the first to assess their lap potetial. 😉

  8. Emma says:

We don’t get so upset when folks leave, but we are all over the place when they show up!

  9. meowmeowmans says:

Goodness, that is so cute! How wonderful that your dogs love your mom so much (except when she has to go home, of course). 🙂

  10. Haha. I enjoy reading your posts. Nice wit. 🙂 I love this picture. Our dogs do that too, when certain people leave. But as you say, how quickly they forget once offered another hike. Thanks for sharing!

  11. Kitties Blue says:

Usually we all take off for our favorite hiding places when anyone comes to the house, especially if they ring the doorbell. XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo

  12. I prefer to visit other people’s places as I don’t like strangers in my house. I loved going to grandma’s she’s been gone almost a year now and I know that Taffy misses her a lot (or at least the table scraps). Love Dolly
