Photo: Cat at work
TweetBlack and White Sunday
While I’m in my office, Elsa Clair is usually nearby. I make it easy for the cats to be close, placing a cat hammock and comfortable mat on my desk directly in front of the window. (She’s there right now while I write this. See next photo.)
Elsa Clair, cat at work
Elsa Clair helps me with my writing. We divvy up the responsibilities–and she takes her job quite seriously.
We split it up this way:
Susan:
- Sit at the computer.
- Stare at screen.
- Make up stuff.
- Post the stuff on my blog.
- Fix the typo I didn’t see the first time.
- Post it again.
- Rewrite it because I decided to change the first sentence.
- Post it again.
- Repeat daily.
Elsa Clair:
- Look cute.
- Nap.
- Meow adorably.
- Stretch.
- Get up, turn around.
- Nap again.
- Watch for birds. (See today’s photo.)
- Distract the human trying to write a blog post.
- Purr.
- Nap some more.
- Announce it’s dinner time
- Repeat daily.
I think that’s a fair distribution of workload, don’t you?
How do your pets help you with your writing or your work?

That is some darn good help and looking cute isn’t as easy as it sounds!
So true! Elsa Clair really works it, doesn’t she?
It’s pretty much the same here minus the purring and meowing. There is usually a trip outside to the backyard for a perimeter check and maybe a nap under the deck by Maggie.
Pets really know how to distract no matter if it’s a doggy or kitty distraction.
She is helping in the way she knows best. LOL
Exactly! And it is ever so helpful.
Sugar inspired me every minute 🙂 Sugar’s main bed is by our patio door where she can hear birds tweeting and of course se her furry friend, Fred. She loves her office/study bed too but no view 🙁 Have a great Sunday. Golden Woofs
Sugar is a pawsome inspiration!
Usually I see cats laying on keyboards which would be a lot less helpful than Elsa’s “help.” I think she puts in her fair share 🙂
I actually read somewhere that if you put a cat-attracting type bed or box on your desk, you might actually be able to use a keyboard. Cat sits in nearby box, still close to Mom (or Dad) and the human can type. Wins for all. 😉
the most important part is to have an eye on the human what sits in front of that screen :o) and being a muse is hard work, you always have to look special to bring good ideas to the clueless bipeds :o)
You are so right; being a muse is hard work.
Look cute is right!
😀
Perfect distribution of the work! If I am on the couch, Nin sits on my lap often. If I am in the office or at the table, one of the dogs is usually asleep near my feet.
Elsa Clair is just one of my helpers. Usually 7/8 of my pets are within petting distance while I work. And they all try to help in their own unique ways.
We are very good at distracting mom. Sometimes its a good thing because she forgets to get back to work!
Distracting mom away from work so she forgets: that’s a win!
Such sweetness. Tutu is always next to me when I’m at my desk. Actually she’s next to me everywhere I go. 🙂
You’re own little posse!
Mr. N reminds me to take a break by lying down on the laptop so I can’t work!
Smart dog, Mr. N.
I am always next to the computer when my mum is working, when she is blogging about me I tell her what to write!
Good for you! How would she know what to write if you didn’t tell her?
You both sound like experts at your jobs! Since they say it’s not healthy to sit too long at your computer, my pets’ job is to make sure I have to get up and down numerous times to let them in and out of the house, or feed them (the cats don’t go outside, so the feeding part is their job and they do it quite well…the dogs also excel at going in and out A LOT).
…proving that pets are good for your health. 😀
The dogs, Ava and Veruca, help generate the content and cats help me document it. Wilhelmina usually helps me by sitting on the desk or in the window. I guess all the animals are helpful when it comes to writing.
Everyone pitches in!
hehe, we do all the hard work! Providing the raw material and good looks!!! 🙂 -Charlie & Harley @MyDogLikes
Your post made me smile, but I have to say I have much more help than you. I have 3 dogs and a cat that love to “help” when I work in my studio – LOL! Have a blessed week!
Yep, that seems about right. 😉
Elsa is much more help than we are! We just sleep and when we’re not sleeping, we are playing with each other. We don’t like to go in mom’s study. It’s not much fun in there!
Must be relaxing to just take an eye break and look at the cat by the window 🙂
Beautiful photo! My Athena is always nearby too when I’m working. I don’t have an office and just work on my laptop either in my bedroom, with Athena on the bed beside me, or downstairs in the living room with Athena napping somewhere close by.
And then when it all gets too much I like to join her for an afternoon nap!
Hmmm perhaps you two should switch responsibilities for the day? Could get interesting…
As I read and write this Lily Olivia is sitting on my lap blocking my view of the keyboard. She and Astrid take turns doing this. Astrid also likes to put her paws on the track pad. Elsa Clair sounds much more well-behaved and knows the division of responsibilities works in her favor. Hugs, Janet
IDK, sounds like Elsa Clair has more to do than you do.. being a muse is hard work
