Black and White Sunday

Baby Girl SRAS BW

Yesterday, my husband and I donated a dozen 30-pound bags of Merrick classic dog food at the Somerset Regional Animal Shelter. (Read the entire story.)

Nancy Gedbow, the kennel manager, introduced us to Baby Girl, one of the adoptable dogs at the shelter.  Baby Girl greeted us with a wagging tail and soft inhalations, happy to have company that included friends old and new. When Nancy sat down, Baby Girl offered up a gentle doggy hug, generating huge grins on both faces.

“I take her home with me nearly every night,” said Nancy.

Baby Girl has been at the shelter way too long.

This amiable and affectionate dog was kept in a closet for years, her sole purpose to breed puppies. She was given to a shelter when she could no longer reproduce.

After a life like that, how could she still trust humans? How could she find it in her heart to forgive our species? How could she greet Brian and I with a calm and centered warmth that filled the entire room, if not our hearts?

There’s so much we can learn about love and forgiveness from a dog.

Before we left, Baby Girl looked me in the eyes. “Please?” she said. “I’d really like to go home.”

With four cats and three dogs, we simply cannot bring another pet into this house. If you know anyone who could give Baby Girl a good home, please contact the Somerset Regional Animal Shelter.

Today, we’re taking part in the Black and White Sunday blog hop. Stop by the other participating blogs below.

    What a sweet face.

  3. Such an adorable face, and what a horrible past life. I will place this on my FB and Google+ page. Baby girl has a family out there, we’ve just got to do our part and help connect them ….. Thanks for sharing!

  4. Awww, would you look at that face! What a sweetheart. Happy weekend.

  5. Felt the same way when we said good bye to our foster dog. Hope Baby Girl finds her forever home soon. That’s great donating food to the shelter. We have excessive treats in the house so we always donate it. Golden Thanks for sharing. Golden Woofs

  6. Brian Frum says:

She sure is a cutie pie!!!

  7. easy rider says:

Baby Girl I hope you can go to your furever home soon with a human who loves you and who is always there for you.

  8. Awww, Baby Girl is the sweetest girl!! It is heartwarming indeed to know that she put her closet-existence behind herself, and enjoys the company of humans again. The beauty of dogs is certainly the fact that they live in the present, and don’t hold grudges. We certainly need to learn from this ability.

I sure hope she’ll find a good, loving forever home very, very soon, where she will be appreciated for just being herself. I will share your post on all of my social media networks.

First of all: That was a very generous donation. You all are so kind-hearted. Secondly, we could definitely see Baby Girl as part of your family. If you can’t do that, why not post her face as one of our Sunday Selfies. With any luck someone will see her and fall in love. We are purring and praying for Baby Girl and wishing her luck. XO, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo

    • Thank you. We posted on your Sunday Selfies; we appreciate the invitation!

And yes, we could see Baby Girl be part of our gang. But one of the ways to be a responsible pet owner is to know when enough is enough. We’ve reached a stasis among our animals; they get along and are very happy. I also know I have the resources (human and financial) to care for them. Much as I’d love to adopt Baby Girl–and some of the other pups and kitties I saw yesterday, I felt it was best to do everything I could to help her find a home that’s a good fit for her.

Thanks again for your support. All purrs and prayers help!

Who could resist that face. I hope she finds a home soon.

  11. Poor girl. Hope she finds a home soon. I think one is our comfortable limit. Mr. N is a diva and I can’t imagine hauling two dogs around everywhere.

  12. i hope she finds a home its horrible how dogs pay the price for human’s stupidity. Love Dolly

  13. Wow, that’s an amazing donation! Good for you!! 😀 Baby Girl is such a cutie! I hope she gets adopted soon!

  14. Emma says:

That is why Mom can only go to a shelter when she wants a new pet. It is just to hard to leave there without adopting some kind of a pet.

  15. Hi Y’all!

That’s what’s so difficult when humans visit a shelter or look at all the dogs in need of loving homes…they want to take them all home or help them all and they just can’t.

Hope she finds her special home soon!

    Y’all come by now,
    Hawk aka BrownDog

  16. Dogs N Pawz says:

Baby Girl is gorgeous! I hope she finds a forever home soon!

  17. I hate that feeling of wanting to bring a new animal home, but knowing that it wouldn’t be the right thing to do because I’ve already got a full house. It’s an internal struggle I experience every time I go to an adoption event. Baby Girl sounds like she’s really special. It’s so hard for me to believe that an animal so sweet, forgiving, and loving hasn’t found a home yet. We will share her on our Facebook and Twitter.
P.S. That was very generous of you to donate that dog food to the shelter!!!
