Photo: Three dogs running through fall leaves

The dogs of Life with Dogs and Cats -- Jasper, Lilah, and Tucker -- run through the fall leaves

Jasper, Lilah and Tucker must have been after something.

This is one of those photos that makes me smile: my dogs running through fall leaves on a foggy day.

Usually my pictures are of Jasper, Lilah and Tucker running toward me. In this case, they must have heard a squirrel scrabbling under the bushes, or spotted a deer running  through my neighbor’s yard.

I love how their personalities are exemplified by their gaits: Jaspers long-legged lope, Tucker’s bouncy run, and Lilah’s intent Border Collie focus, fur blown back by her speed.

Do your pets have different ways of running?

That’s great that you managed to capture them all so well mid-run – two of mine love running through the woods but capturing them on camera is not so easy! Lots of love from Teresa, Belinha (definitely not a runner) and Moleque & Nina (the runners).

Great photo. Funny, I was just thinking of a post on Maggie’s “scamper”. She doesn’t walk, she scampers everywhere she goes…Jack plods, so the two of them together are so different.

My favorite run is the “dachshund dash!” You’ll see we minis are built more like rabbits in this way. You can catch me doing warm-ups in this short video clip from my YouTube channel: http://youtu.be/MNI9iTayr4Y

  4. Great photo, and their individuality shines through

  6. Fantastic action photo! You really captured their personalities and movement well. My rescue Pug Kilo sprints flat our with his ears back and his eyes bulging. He is super fast but can only go short distances, and we can’t let him off leash yet so in the house or on a 20′ leash. Have a great week.

  9. Looks like fun – I’d love to know where they’re running to (or from)…

Fabulous photo of your dogs! I love it! Yes, all of our cats have different gaits, ranging from Zoe’s out of control running to Moosey’s loping “speed walk.” 🙂

  12. Great photo! Your dogs are all so gorg! Rita sometimes runs like a bunny – which is partly why that’s her nickname. She does this funny hop thing w/ her back legs. It’s so cute!

  13. This is such a great action shot! Riley doesn’t really run (he’s kind of old and very lazy!), but when he does, it’s really more of a trot…I love when the wind blows back his ears – so cute! 🙂

  15. Mr. N runs like a rabbit. Very bouncy.
