Snow Dog Lives

Last weekend, during a very brief moment when the moon was in the seventh house, and Jupiter aligned with Mars, the conditions were perfect for peace to guide the planet, love to steer the stars, and and me to build a snow dog.

I took a quick photo of the three dogs — ahem — four dogs, together, with Lilah’s paw adorably draped over Snow Dog’s leg.

After that, we went back to single-digit temperatures and double-layer gloves.

The bright side to this (and I have to look for a bright side because I am So. Over. Winter.) is that Snow Dog — who under more normal circumstances would have turned into Snow Blob in a few days — still lives. And he looks pretty good for his age.

Snow Dog 2015

Looking good for ancient in Snow Dog years.

He’s been keeping silent watch over the birds and the squirrels in our yard, though he doesn’t chase them. I think he has more of a live and let live attitude toward other creatures.

Tucker checks out Snow Dog

Tucker thinks Snow Dog might have insider information on where his ball is buried under the frozen surface.

He doesn’t eat much. Or mooch from the table.

Jasper casts a shadow on Snow Dog

Jasper shadows Snow Dog.

I don’t have to pick up after him. Or chase him away from the cats’ litter boxes.

Lilah, Tucker and Jasper still like Snow Dog

Lilah, Tucker and Jasper greet Snow Dog with sniffs, snorts and tail wags.

He doesn’t bark every time my neighbor comes home. Or when the mail carrier comes. Or when he hears the wind blow.

Jasper and Snow Dog watch Lilah

Jasper and Snow Dog watch Lilah walk on top of the frozen crust.

His quiet and accepting nature may have rubbed off on a few of us.

I’ll miss him when he’s gone.

Will you miss anything about winter?

  1. Hi Y’all!

Living in the southeastern U.S., winter means that I frequently get to go in the car with my Humans. Not all the time because sunny days often bring temps in the 60’s and 70’s…too hot for snow dog or me, especially in a car.

Love the photo of Jasper and snow dog.

Too bad about Mischief Monday. Maybe a Friday blog will move to Monday? Especially the 2nd and 4th Fridays are overcrowded and, at the moment, Monday has no one.

    Y’all come on by,
    Hawk aka BrownDog

    okay, that is downright adorable.

SNOW MUCH FUN! I was excited this weekend when we finally entered the single digit minuses!

  4. Robin says:

Snow dog sounds like a very good pup. I’m glad that he has given you a few extra days of enjoyment. After all, if it must be cold out, the least winter could do is give us something fun to look at.

  5. You did a great sculpting job!! Personally, I love Spring best – not too hot and not too cold, and that’s when all the beautiful flowers start to bloom.

  6. Snow dog is doing fine!

  7. I love seeing animals made from snow! Thank you for sharing, talk about a watch dog! 🙂

Amazingly, it looks like no one has peed on him either, which is nice.

When the sun goes out, snow dog goes on a diet.

    What a cute snow dog!

  11. Jana Rade says:

We still have plenty of snow here and since the temperatures got reasonable, I don’t think I want it to go away 🙂

  12. Daisy says:

We love Snow Dog! We’ll miss winter despite the bitterly cold temps – we love snow and we’ve really been enjoying it all. We actually appreciate different things about every season, but we don’t particularly care for summer heat. I know lots of northeasterners will think we’re crazy, especially since we live near the shore, but there it is! 😉

    • I like all the seasons, but this winter is old. We keep getting these nasty mixtures of snow, sleet, freezing rain, more snow, and sleet on top. That’s no fun. What happened to good old-fashioned snow?

  13. Very cute snow dog ! Purrs

  14. Carleen says:

Totally cute! I have always wanted to make a snow dog!

  15. Ellen Pilch says:

Very nice and not even any yellow spots 🙂 Please visit us for a cat in the hat giveaway.

Aww I’d miss him too. It’s funny how such things become normal after such a short time. I didn’t make a snow dog (but that’s in my plan now – thanks for the awesome suggestion) but I did miss our snow man last year when he was gone. I think Laika did as well; after she stopped growling at him that is.

  17. That is one cool snow dog. 🙂

  18. dawn rae says:

I will miss the quiet. And decreased crime. And the fact that the neighborhood teens all stay indoors. I will miss my breath on the air and watching Willy climb the snow banks like King of the Hill. I will miss all of that..but i’m so ready for Spring!

  19. Ruth Cox says:

Your snow dog and tale are absolutely delightful! Fortunately, I’ve spent the past couple of winters in Florida so I’ve missed all the winter white. I may be moving back north soon so I better prepare for next winter!

  20. MyDogLikes says:

We won’t miss a thing but will be ready when it comes back…Its such a short season! Snow dog is cute and quiet, but I’d rather snuggle with the real deal!

  21. We will miss the fact that he’ll lose his booties! Oh, mom says that she’s old enough to know that you’re giving away your age with the moon in the seventh house stuff. Love Dolly

  22. Cathy Armato says:

Wow, that is one fabulous snowdog sculpture – you are very talented! I’m hoping Tuck, Jasper & Lilah don’t decide to piddle on him… LOL!

  23. meowmeowmans says:

That is so cute! You did a wonderful job sculpting your snow dog.

We’re not sure we’re going to miss much about winter. Just saying. 😉

  24. Kitties Blue says:

NOT ONE DARN THING! More snow is in the forecast for tomorrow. Hope the weather guessers are so wrong! Our mom always try to find the silver lining in every situation. Stay warm. XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo
