I woke up this morning to an exciting surprise.
And no, it wasn’t cat barf on my rug (though I have had that kind of surprise — more than once I might add.)
On my Twitter feed was a drawing of our cat Dawn by Thomas Clausen.
Here’s the photo he posted.
Clausen creates one sketch or drawing each day and features it on his website, Facebook page, Instagram and Twitter feed ( @onedrawingdaily). If you tweet him a photo of your pet (or submit it online), he may pick yours to draw for free.
Meet Thomas Clausen
I first heard of Clausen on Layla Morgan Wilde’s purr-ific site, Cat Wisdom 101. She’s a huge fan of the artist (who is also an architecture student); he created a beautiful watercolor and ballpoint pen portrait of her cat Merlin for his 21st birthday.
I commented on the post where she interviewed Clausen, and where she was giving away a portrait to one lucky reader in honor of Merlin’s birthday. Clausen must have looked up my website and found a photo of Dawn.
Don’t you think Clausen’s drawing really captures her mischievous side?
Here’s a close up of the portrait.
Stop by Clausen’s site, Pet Portraits by Thomas Clausen, to see some of his work, or to hire him to create a custom portrait of you nonhuman family members. Or follow him on Twitter and send him a photo of your pet; maybe you’ll be lucky and wake up one morning to a pleasant surprise — one that doesn’t involve carpet.

Would you commission a portrait of your pets?
