Step-by-step instructions for dogs: how to roll in something stinky

For many dogs, an outfit is not complete without a splash of scent; Dead Mouse Obsession, Worm No. 5 and Eau De Goose Peau are some of the more popular perfumes for the fashion-conscious canine.

In order to get the most out of the odor, a fragrance must be applied correctly. Today, Tucker demonstrates the technique.

1) Sniff

Choose your scent to match your mood or the activities planned for the day. Strong top notes of bird carcass or dessicated vole are best saved for large parties involving humans.

2) Dive

Once you’ve chosen your fragrance, dive into it headfirst, smearing as much as possible on your face.

3) Slide

Slide the rest of your body into the source of the smell.

4) Shoulder Roll

As you slide, roll your shoulder toward the ground…

5) Roll

…and roll onto your back. (This is the best part.)

6) Rub

With all four paws in the air, rub and roll vigorously on the scent spot.

7) Twist

Twist your head back and forth, to ensure complete coverage.

8) Shake and share

When you’re done, shake yourself out and run to the nearest human. If she drops her camera and runs away screaming, “Get away from me!” you’ve applied your parfum de stink correctly.

If not, repeat the process and try again.

Love it. Our Sally was our roller and this is her exact technique. Her favorite fragrance was dead fish and unfortunately, one of our favorite runs offered a wide variety of samples for her to choose from. Neither Jack or Maggie do this…I wonder why?
