Story: The paper chase

Tucker helps rinse the dishes as we put them in the dishwasher. (My husband calls it the Lick and Hold Cycle.) Jasper is a canine vacuum cleaner; no crumb is left behind. And Athena supervises in the kitchen, providing commentary about the sous chef’s technique.

All of my pets are helpful. For example, recently Calvin and Elsa Clair helped me with some paperwork.

I was attempting to tidy up my office, trying to winnow down the paper tower on my desk that grows when I’m not looking. The result was a small pile of paper intended for the recyclable bag in the garage. I wasn’t quite ready to head downstairs, so I put the pile in the hallway, knowing I’d grab it the next time I left my office.

That’s when Calvin came along.

Seeing an unsorted pile of paper in the hallway, the cat knew immediately that it needed to be cat-aloged.

He lay down on top of it.

Calvin looks comfortable on top of the bed of paper. Notice the fleece in the background, which is actually intended to be a cat bed.

Then, the different pages had to be cat-egorized. That required some rolling around on the paper, which made lots of satisfying crinkly rustly noises.

The sound of a cat at work attracted Elsa Clair, who inspected Calvin’s progress.

She found his effort lacking; apparently I needed some tiny holes punched in some of the papers. She and Calvin both worked diligently to complete this important task, using the all-purpose mouth punch.

In addition, some of the pages contained potentially cat-aclysmic content, and thus required shredding; thank goodness each cat had some handy well-sharpened tools to make short work of that assignment.

Calvin demonstrates his hole-punching technique.

When they left, satisfied with a job well done, I stopped to admire their accomplishment:  well-sorted papers, punched with the appropriate amount of holes, and everything filed in the appropriate spot.

Such helpful cats.

What would I do without cats?

How nice it is to have help with my paperwork.

Do your pets help, too? What kind of tasks do they like to do for you?

LOL, what a great story! You have so much help around the house… mine just wait for treats to fly into their mouths 😉

  2. But look at how helpful. I especially like the hole punching.

  3. What a great post! A job very well done there!

    Happy Monday Mischief!

    Louise & Bernie 🙂

Lol! Very helpful! Legolas decided my hall closet (medicine, extra toiletries and towels/sheets mostly) needed to be rearranged the other day. He also helped the dogs get their toys out of the toy bin (by dumping it off the shelf).

    • Love your cat’s name; you must be a LOTR fan. I think that’s part of the fun of having kitties; they have a way of helping that is completely unhelpful, but they are so cute when they do it that you forgive them. 😉

  5. I love getting help from my kitties! Though they often make messes, it is just so darn cute, I don’t care. Those pictures you got are adorable. My cats like to help with papers like yours, with changing the sheets, and with computer work especially.

guys….if ewe like shreddin stuff…best knot ta let on two de eye R & ess…..spesh a lee at thiz time oh de yeer 🙂

  7. We hope Calvin got extra treats for all the work he did.

  8. Cute! Gosh, I could use some help with my paperwork! Rita is the pits for that. (Our Abby used to love to help shred the junk mail, but Rita couldn’t care less!) She’s also terrible for the pre-rinse cycle with the dishes. (She’s so weird…) But, she does love to help with any yard work – always has her nose right in there, and she is excellent at homeland security!

  9. We don’t have a doorbell but we don’t really need one. We have Mr. N. He’s also in charge of rodent patrol.

    • Who needs a doorbell when you have a dog? Mr. N is probably better than a doorbell, if he’s anything like my dogs, who bark before a person even gets to the door. Plus rodent patrol. And he’s cute. Let’s see someone make a doorbell that can do all that, right?

My dog Dallas is the clean up crew when I’m cooking – anything that falls on the floor she grabs in an instant!

  11. Great work kitties!

What wonderful assistants you guys are!

I’m good at finding things that should have been put away, like random socks and I can also do shredding, if I find paper on the floor I’m good at dealing with it (but I only do that when Dad’s not home, his papers are important and I know they don’t need shredding!) 🙂

    I hope you’re having a fun day,

    Your pal Snoopy 🙂

  12. Cute. Donna typically leaves our things alone which I am thankful for. 😉
