Haiku by Dog: Polite

Haiku by Dog: perhaps you did not / hear my polite request for / dinner. now I’ll bark.Today’s haiku is by Lilah.

Lilah has a sense of time that is second only to the most accurate atomic clock on earth (apparently housed in the basement on the campus of the University of Colorado Boulder.)

At precisely Dinner O’Clock, she will come find me and give me The Look. The one that says, “You’re late, human. Dinner was supposed to be served .037 seconds ago. Tardiness is a sign of a sloppy mind.”

If I don’t respond with the appropriate action within the designated time period (instantly), she’ll increase the intensity of the stare. I have no idea how she does it, but I can feel her laser focus boring into me. “Now. Dinner is to be served now. Don’t make me have to bark. Because I will.”

And then, the bark. Shrill. Piercing. Demanding. A sound that enters the head and stabs at the brain with such force that I’ll do anything to make it stop. Like drop everything I’m doing and run to start preparing  the dogs’ (and cats) dinner.

Over time, I’ve learned to respond before the barkage. I am a well-trained human.

How do your pets have you trained?

  1. I understand Lilah! Humans simply do not understand that starvation sets in on us after waiting 2 minutes for our food. ☺

Shiner also does this, although I don’t think she’s ever barked at me. But, she will follow me around EVERYWHERE until I feed her.

  7. Rebekah says:

Hahaha! My dogs do not know the meaning of a polite request!

  8. Kitties Blue says:

We too know when it is meal time. If one of the humans is not dishing up the grub at the appropriate time, Mauricio and Calista Jo start rolling around on the floor, wrestling and growling at each other. That really gets their attention. XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo
