Haiku By Dog: Sadness

Haiku by Dog: sadness folded neat / tucked away in a suitcase / you're leaving, aren’t you?Today’s haiku is by Jasper.

This week, I’m heading off to MeowWorld Presented by Cat Writers’ Association / BarkWorld. I’m really excited, as it’s a great combination of bloggers and writers all gathered together to learn, share and grow.

Jasper, on the other paw, is not so excited. One look at the suitcase, and he knows he’ll be left behind. All by himself. With just the other dogs and all four cats for company. And my husband. And my son, who’s home all day.

It’s such a sad situation.

Don’t worry, Jasper. I’m sure I’ll bring home some swag for you–and the rest of my fur family.

Do your pets know when you’re leaving? How do you think they can they tell? What do they do?

Dang, my Dad has been to several of those, but not this year 🙁 It is a super great conference.

  2. Emma says:

Mom rarely leaves without us, so not a big issue at our house.

  3. The suitcase is out in our house, too. We don’t ever like it when that thing shows up, but hopefully she will come back with some tasty swag for all of us.

  4. safe travels! See ya there! Dakota is going to lose his mind when I leave, Cody is going to be extremely upset too

  5. sandy says:

I get the sad face and sometimes the silent meow when he opens his mouth to meow but nothing comes out so he seems even sadder.
    Have a great trip!

  6. The mom is headed there too…and that makes us sad. Though the dad will be taking care of us and has promised us extra treats!

  7. Skipper says:

    What a sad face. 🙂

  8. Oh, love the haiku! And the photo! Poor, poor Jasper! Yes, Rita knows what the suitcase means. She starts to get a little frantic and follows me everywhere. She’s always so relieved if we are going somewhere where she gets to come along. (Have a fabulous time!)

  9. OMD! Your mom is going to have so much fun! I wish I was going with her. ☺ Bentley knows if we are leaving him the minute the suitcase appears. He will be very surprised when he gets to go to Nashville! P.S. Jasper, you’ll get great treats and toys!!

  10. Andrea says:

The only time I’ve ever left my dogs more than a few hours was way back when I went to Hawaii and Rocco was an only dog.

He packed me a “bacon twist” in my suitcase. 🙂 I am sure he was just burying it for later, but it still warms my heart to this day.

Hope you’ll join us for NaNoWoofMo! We need more writers to decide the fate of the homeless dog in our story.
