Haiku by Dog: Play
TweetToday’s haiku is by Jasper.
“Let’s play!”
That’s what Jasper is saying with his body language. Front half on ground, back half up in the air, tail waving like a flag in a strong breeze. We humans call that a play bow.
Kind of like how you might bow to your partner as an invitation to begin when square dancing, like you might have been endured enjoyed during grade school. Only a lot more fun.
I love when my dogs get into that posture. It’s a moment between equals, among dogs that like each other. An indication that fun is about to go down.
And I will admit that sometimes I attempt a human version of the play bow, dipping my front half low and performing a slight jump with both feet. Not the best maneuver for my aging back, but I want to play, too.
How do you invite your pets to play?

Not even the smartest cat seems to understand this clear message from dog.
True. And in return, even my smart dogs don’t understand a wagging tail on a cat does not mean the same thing as a wagging tail on a dog. 😉
Claire hears you loud and clear, Jasper. Purrs
😀
What fun! Jasper looks very happy in that stance. I usually invite my kitties to play simply by sitting on the floor. Occasionally, I will put my hand over their face (which we call “mucking” the cat). The cats love being mucked and will sometimes put their faces into my hand to indicate that they want to play with me. 🙂
Love that! I may have to try it with my kitties!
