Haiku by Dog: Payback
TweetToday’s haiku is by Tucker.
I’m not sure what it is about Tucker, but his wiry terrier hair is like a sponge. His fur absorbs every smell he comes near, sucking in scent like a stink black hole. So even if he doesn’t roll in dead worm, or bird poop, he smells like it anyway. He merely has to walk outside and he comes back in stinky.
Thus, on a warm day, it’s likely that Tucker — who thinks merely getting wiped with a moistened washcloth is akin to waterboarding — will be subject to the horror and indignity of a bath. We’ve found a few shampoos that actually allow my dog to smell nice — not all flowery and undoglike — but pleasant enough to be around.
When all the wetting and washing is done, I throw a towel over him and rub him dry. Happy the torture is over, and ready to get onto the business of drying off, Tucker will perform a spectacular dog shake, spewing water in a gleeful shower that ensures anyone within 17 1/2 feet gets wet.
And all is right with the world, at least until he sees the shampoo bottle and pile of towels that indicate a dampness in his future.

Oh yes, shake-offs are Daisy’s most favorite revenge. Since we groom her after her bath, we’re given multiple shake-off paybacks. I’ve had to wear an old, big windbreaker that repels water when we bathe her.
Yup. It’s amazing how much water a small dog can throw!
That’s a wonderful and evocative Haiku, Tucker. Sounds like you’re quite the prolific shaker! 🙂
Thanks. Yes. Tucker is an excellent shaker. He hates being wet.
super plan! that’s what I always do too :o)
All we’re doing is sharing a little wetness, right?
de catz say HA HA
glad that bathe waz knot for uz
towel ore knot, noe thanx ! ☺☺☺♥♥♥
Yeah, I have a feeling the cats would be laughing at Tucker.
I love water and love to swim, but not keen on a bath. I stand there patiently and deal with it. Bailie is like me with water, but she tries like the dickens to get out of the tub constantly. Mom usually is sopping wet when Bailie is finished.
I hear you. I often have to wear my bathing suit or rain gear when bathing our dogs.
The only baths we like are the ones we give ourselves.
Those are much better.
