Haiku By Dog: Hear
TweetToday’s haiku is by Tucker.
I sometimes wonder whether the dogs and cats with whom I share my home can hear okay.
I call them, and get no response.
Or the UPS guy shows up and somedoggies didn’t bark.
I might even open the Drawer of Magical Kitty Toys, and only a quarter of the cats show up to play.
But there’s one hearing test that works for everyone, no matter the species, the location, or the time of day.
All I have to do it open up a bag of treats. Something about that crinkly sound cuts right through sleep, temporary deafness, and I’m Ignoring You Because I Can.
They all come running.

My kitty always comes running whenever he hears bells, containers open, the fridge open, bags crinkle… the list goes onnnn and onnn
Right! Anything that sounds like food might be available.
Mine can hear that crinkle from 5 miles on a dirt road in the rain. ??
I hear ya. 😉
Cats are talented that way. But if you want them to come, and you call them, suddenly their hearing seems a little less than perfect.
Works exactly the same at our house. With our first kitty, before the days of pop tops, the sound of the electric can opener would elicit the same response. Looking forward to seeing you at BlogPaws.
Whatever sound means food is a siren call for kitties.
Haha. Yes, they do have selective hearing, don’t they?
Very selective in my house.
