Haiku by Dog: Best

#HaikuByDog I have the best stick / You can’t have my stick because / it’s mine. Not yours. Mine.

Today’s haiku is by Tucker.

For most of the year, a ball is the best outside toy.

Except during winter. Then, the best toy is a stick.

This is true mostly because a ball thrown in the winter is likely to land in snow, burying itself within the depths of the white stuff. This makes is hard to retreive. Plus a dog will probably wind up with a very cold nose.

But a stick will float through the air and land on top of the snow. It might skitter across the frozen surface, but for the most part it stays right there. Just waiting to be grabbed and retrieved for yet another throw.

Plus a stick provides the crunch of good chewage along the way.

After a storm, there are so many sticks to choose from, it’s hard to know which is the Very Best Stick. It might take a while to pick out the best one, but when you find it — that’s a moment of pure joy.

Until you realize the other dog has a better one.

What games do your pets like to play in the winter?
