Haiku by Cat: Spoiled
TweetToday’s haiku is by Athena.
The dogs came first. As in, first we had dogs, then we adopted Athena and Dawn. (Then Tucker the terrier. Then Calvin and Elsa Clair.)
So one would think that the cats would be used to dogs by now. And, for the most part, they are.
Calvin loves them.
Elsa Clair ignores them.
Dawn will swat at one of them (usually Lilah) if she gets too close.
But Athena, she has no use for dogs. They’re noisy. Smelly. Bouncy. And they’re always in her space.
She’s so irritated by their very existence that she stares daggers at any canines who are in or near or may soon be in or near her vicinity.
So it’s no wonder that the dogs bark at her. Because she’s staring at them. And even though the two species do not speak the same language, in both Cat and Dog, a stare is offensive, if not a downright threat.
Through her wide-eyed glare, Athena is yelling unprintable kitty curses—and the dogs understand them. So they react, which gets my cat even more hissed off. So she stares at them even more. The dogs are puzzled and bewildered; they don’t know what they’ve done to so offend this particular feline. Which amps up the canine agitation. Which may result in a chase.
The circle of life in my house.
And why my role is interspecies arbiter and full-time distractor.
Life with dogs and cats: always entertaining.
How do your pets get along?
