Haiku by Cat: Listening
TweetToday’s haiku is by Calvin.
My cats can hear me open the Magical Drawer of Happiness — where I keep kitty treats — from upstairs, in my bedroom, deep within the underbed cave.
The soft shush of a ziplock bag being accessed is a siren call to all felines, who instantly apparate when I pick up a treat pouch.
From the depths of kitty dreamland, they will wake up and thunder to the kitchen at the sound of a single kibble bit hitting the kitchen floor.
Don’t ever think a cat isn’t tuned into every sound in the house. Don’t imagine they don’t hear you when you call them. Unless you sound like food, they’re just not listening.
Do your pets have selective hearing?

Great haiku and so true! Love that photo too. 🙂
Yes! My kitties do seem to have that little switch to turn their hearing on and off. Anything that has to do with food is loud and clear. Other things are little bit hit and miss. MOL I love the photo btw!
We all have excellent selective hearing at my house!
I’m afraid Easy has a very very selctive hearing… although we cleaned his ears today :o)
Good job Calvin!
All of our cats have different levels of selective hearing. Zoe is active and curious, and hears (and responds to) almost everything. Moosey and Gracie are more selective… 🙂

Y’know…that’s really true. Us cats do have selective hearing.
Our cats were/are the same! They always hear dinner.
