Haiku by Cat: Everything
TweetToday’s haiku is by Elsa Clair.
It’s all in the eyes. That’s how cats speak. Yes, they meow and mew and merp and purr. But it’s through the eyes that entire conversations take place. And they have a lot to tell you.
Which is why, if you ask a cat a simple question like, “What’s wrong?” you’re liable to get a litany of responses.
I have a feeling if we weren’t limited to the three lines and 5/7/5 syllable construction of the haiku, Elsa Clair would have had many more items to add to her list of complaints.
Which is why I’m kind of glad I don’t actually have to hear it. Though, particularly with Elsa Clair, if she feels we’re not hearing her through her stares and glares, she’ll up the volume until her needs are met.

I think you’re getting a little touch of the ol’ “stink eye” there! But Elsa Clair is so beautiful, you can really only smile. 🙂
If you put a little orange on Elsa Clair that could be my calico cat Taki, same eyes, same complaints…
Cats are such fun and they definitely let you know what is on their minds. I really love the name Elsa Clair. ♥
Weez’ll be honest and say weez never unnerstood da haiku fingy, but weez fur sure unnerstood dat look. MOL We talk to mommy all da time. Sumtimes a look or purr and sumtimes an all out meow. MOL And meez notorious fur pattin’ mommys awrm or leg to get hers attention.

Nothing succinct about any of us…that’s why we write poems and not haiku. Mom wishes Mauricio were the strong, silent type, but instead he’s the needy, whiny type. XOCK, Lily Olivia, Mauricio, Misty May, Giulietta, Fiona, Astrid, Lisbeth and Calista Jo
Mum knows that look ! It’s worth a big meow ! Purrs
Kitties have such a difficult life!
You’re right…Elsa Clair doesn’t look real pleased.
Dinner being late is hardly forgivable!
Hee hee! We have three cats, and all are a little different with their levels of vocalization. Zoe is the chatterbox, always meowing and “talking” with us. Moosey is pretty vocal, too, but he’s skilled with the eye contact/telepathy thing. Gracie has the most soulful eyes, and her vocalizations are usually reserved for “LET’S EAT!” 🙂
Where do I begin? For his 4 a.m. feeding Rhette lays on top of me and just purrs loudly. During the day he road blocks the route to his dish and meows loudly as if I didn’t know what he wants. Cats!
With cats, I always wonder who’s training who. Actually, I don’t wonder. And it’s not us humans doing the training.
What a great Haiku Elsa! Just found this series of posts and I’m loving them!
Thank you! So glad you like our haiku. We have fun writing them!
