Haiku by Cat: Duty
TweetYou’ll never go alone.
Not when you live with cats or dogs.
My dog Halley will sit patiently out side the door when I’m in the bathroom, unless the door is open, in which case she’ll come on in and snoopervise whatever I’m currently doing at the moment.
With cats, it’s a bit different. I believe there are several applicable rules in the Cat Codex. The first relates to doors, in Section 3, Subsection XX. “No door shall be closed preventing access or egress for any feline. To remedy the situation, a cat must do any or all of the following until the situation is remedied:
- Meow
- Yowl
- Scratch at the door
- Stick paw under the door
- Rip up carpet or flooring under the door
Thus, in my house, I cannot close the bathroom door completely, or I will be subject to the above, as my feline family take the Codex very seriously.
But there’s something about the bathroom that requires extra attention. If I’m correct, it’s under Section 7, Subsection XIV: “Humans cannot be left unsupervised in the bathroom. It is imperative to keep watch. There are dangers best left unwritten, and it is the cat’s job to stand guard against them.”
There is no such thing as privacy when you live with cats and dogs.
Do your pets join you in the bathroom?

That is definitely true at our place. Any closed door — especially one to the bathroom — is almost an affront to Ava and Target. 🙂
My cats don’t visit me too much in the bathroom, but the dog is almost always there. lol
