Haiku by Cat: Desire

Haiku by Cat: hope, mine out of reach / desire glimpsed, not attained / for lack of thumbsHaiku by Cat: hope, mine out of reach / desire glimpsed, not attained / for lack of thumbs

Alas, no thumbs. That’s Elsa Clair’s lament in today’s Haiku by Cat.

If she had those crucial body parts, that cat would have the window open faster than a whisker twitch. She’d be hunting chickadees and chipmunks–and the yard would be strewn with…body parts.

I, for one, am thankful for simple, sweet, jelly-bean-toed, thumbless kitty paws.

It’s safer that way.

What would your pets do if they had thumbs?

  2. Such frustration without thumbs! If I had them, I would open doors…the front door, the pantry door….that would be the life! Happy WW!

If our cats had thumbs, I have a feeling no cabinet or door would be left unopened. Can you say “smorgasbord?” 🙂

That is the cutest darn photo. Astrid does that stretch all the time, but she doesn’t have that long and lean look. Mom says she doesn’t even want to think about what trouble we could get into if we had thumbs. She does know, however, that if we did, she would make us scoop our own litter boxes and feed ourselves, so we are super glad we are thumbless. If I had thumbs I would have food all day long! You are one long kitty cat. 🙂

  7. We know exactly what you mean! Mom’s cat Peaches was the worst at trying to escape, even at the vet, she would try to turn a door knob with both paws. We always said if she had thumbs she would be out of here! Love Dolly

  8. My husband and I were just saying last night that we are glad the cats don’t have thumbs. They would rule the world! And open all of the doors and kitchen cabinets….

  9. Hmmm… I think he would just try to follow me everywhere. Which he does now but he can’t open doors!

  10. Rooney would open all of the food cabinets and containers if he had thumbs, this I know for certain.

  11. I’m thankful for the lack of thumbs too. I can just imagine all of the trouble Cinco and Manna would get into if they had thumbs. Great photo – that is quite a stretch!

  12. I have thumbs but I haven’t learned how to use them properly…yet. ~Ernie

  13. It’s just as well our cats don’t have thumbs, they’d be opening the pantry and fridge and helping themselves to the food.

Oh, poor sweet kitty. If only…but then it is safer inside. My four kitties are all indoor cats, but the smells, sights, sounds of the great outdoors do beckon them every time a window is slightly open! Great photo!!
