The Force Awakens and it’s Not What You Think: Sci Fi Dogs and Cats

Sci Fi Fans with Fur

In my house, we can quote liberally and accurately from Star Trek (all versions, TV and movies), Star Wars (with similar opinions on 1, 2 and 3; don’t get us started), Battlestar Galactica (the recent version), and Dr. Who (with differing opinions on our favorite doctors and companions.) And that’s just a smattering.

So it shouldn’t be surprising that my dogs and cats are science fiction fans, too.

Dogs and Cats Texting

Sci fi references show up all over the place in this blog, including Dogs and Cats Texting. For example:

Text from Cat: Boldly go where no cat has gone before: in a closet

Dawn channels Star Trek, in her exploration of Brian’s closet.

Elsa Clair is more of a Dr. Who fan. Not surprisingly she has strong opinions about which one is the best.

Text from Cat: I like the 10th doctor best.

I agree with Elsa Clair on both counts.

Tucker is an all-around kind of sci fi fan.

Text from Dog: Houston, we have a problem

Can you guess all the references? Hint: not all are fiction.

Celebrating Star Wars Day

On May the Fourth (Star Wars Day), we celebrated by delivering a few important messages.

Star Wars Elsa Clair cat force is strong

Yes, the force is strong. Don’t you feel yourself wanting to adopt?

Lilah Tucker Jasper not the dogs shelter Star Wars 100

“These are not the dogs you’re looking for, but others wait for you at the shelter.” –Obi Wan Adoggy

The Force Awakens

And today swag and toys for the newest Star Wars movie, The Force Awakens, went on sale. No, we didn’t go on a midnight shopping spree; some of us have to get up and work the next day.

But we were inspired. Because science fiction. And Star Wars. And dogs and cats.

The Force Awakens because it heard a noise.

Jasper is truly a Force unto himself.

The Force Awakens and then decides it needs another nap.

Calvin can be a Force, if he stays awake long enough.

What would your pets be like if they had The Force? Or maybe they already do? Share your stories in the comments.

  5. These are awesome and it’s so hard to pick a favourite! PS Amber likes to discover new life and new civilisations in the closet too!

  6. We tend to use the one liners, like “engage,” and “thataway” <- more obscure, definitely, except for superFans!)
But then again, we also end up using quotes from fave book series too, like Bujold, Weber, Moon, Reher, etc.

Yeah, we're geeks like that. But then again, our human *is* a physicist, so we, like, have rocket science going on at home all the time – ha!

  7. Brian Frum says:

Those were all wonderful and we are Star Trek and Star Wars fans too! Live ling and foster!

  8. Ummm… What’s in Brian’s closet? Inquiring minds wanna know.

  9. These dogs and cat text conversations are so funny! Loved the one about Brian’s closet haha!

  10. First off I want to say excellent blog! I had a quick question in which I’d like to ask
if you do not mind. I was interested to know how you center yourself and clear your mind before writing.
I have had a difficult time clearing my mind in getting my ideas out.
I truly do enjoy writing but it just seems like the
first 10 to 15 minutes are lost simply just trying to figure out how to begin. Any suggestions or tips?
    Thank you!

    • The first 10 -15 minutes can be a challenge. There are tons of online resources to help with creativity. You need to find what works best for you. For me, I keep my iPhone next to me to jot down ideas when they come to me, instead of forcing them when I sit at my computer. Then I schedule them out so I know what I’m writing and when. Hope that helps.
