Thing is, Lilah is right. Elsa Clair does covet her kibble.
Every once in a while when I’m preparing everyone’s dinner, a nugget bounces out of a bowl, rolls across the counter and falls to the floor. Whichever cat is closest—and fastest—will pounce, grab and consume that small bit of specially formulated canine nutrition before a dog even recognizes such an event took place. And usually it’s Elsa Clair.
And of course whatever the other animal is having—dog or cat—is always the best thing. Better than whatever is served by the staff (that’s me).
It’s the reason I feed the cats first: so they’re otherwise occupied when I put the dog bowls down, and the dogs can eat undisturbed. Lilah, Jasper and Tucker are always finished before the kitties—this is where they win the speed eating contest—and thus there is no opportunity for food theft.
Gotta keep peace in the house, and pieces in the bowl.

We have some food thieves among us and those who think what the other cat is having must be better; though, it is exactly the same. Sawyer is fed separately, as he has meds in his food, but even if he didn’t, he still would be, as he is very protective of his food and covets all the bowls. We have no idea how long he went without food while he was living outside. He actually growls while eating to keep others away. If one cat gets a stray kibble, do each of the cats get to have a piece? That’s what Mom would do for us. Thank cod we don’t have dogs around here to contend with….though sometimes we covet each other’s foods.
