Text from Cat: I thought I was purring

Text from Cat: Was that you calling? I didn't pick up cuz I thought I was purring.

If I call my dogs, they’re at my side before I finish listing their names. “Did you want something? Or are you gonna give us something? Is it a treat? I bet it’s a treat. It’s not a treat? Are we going outside? Are we going to play ball? Or maybe it’s a walk. Yeah, I bet that’s it. It’s a walk. Right?”

If I call my cats, I get silence.  Followed — eventually — by, “Oh. Wait. You wanted something? I was too busy ignoring you to answer.”

Unless I do one of two things:

1) Open a tin of cat food

2) Open the Drawer of Magical Cat Toys and Nip

Then I see skid marks on my tiles where the cats rounded the corners too fast in their hurry to reach me.

Do your pets come when called?

Athena that’s brilliant!!! I sometimes have to open the fridge after I called Easy 87 times… sadly the fridge is to big to take it with me… but maybe I can record that noise and play it on my phone? hmmm… it’s worth a try :o)

They usually will come when called ’cause they know it means breakfast or dinner or something else good. If they are ignoring me, I just shake a bag of treats. Instant response. Hugs, Janet

Actually my cat does come when I call here. This is after years of rewarding her for responding. And it isn’t 100%. She is still a cat.

  5. That is the same way that I used to call my cats. I could hit the electric can opener and they’d be at my side in a heartbeat. The boys usually come when I call them, although Bentley sometimes thinks about it for a few minutes.

Yep we always come when mommy calls us. Well okay ‘cept when weez be indisposed. Yous know in da pawdee box. She just has to wait then. MOL

    MOL! Such a cat 🙂

  8. Daisy says:

HAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! The best way to call Daisy is to cut into a carrot; then she comes skidding around the corner like it was made of ice. 🙂

So funny! I can definitely relate to this one. Cinco and Manna have selective hearing it seems. Most of the time the will come when I call them, but they do get a cattitude once in a while.

  10. Well, we are cats…and we don’t usually come when called unless there’s food involved.

  11. That cracked me right up!

  12. meowmeowmans says:

    Ha! That’s perfect. 😀

Our cats are actually pretty good about coming when we call. I have no idea how to explain that. Lucky, I suppose!

  13. lol. Too funny. Rita *moslty* comes when I call her. But this weekend it was so hot, I think she went on strike, She went back to bed like right away Sat morning and we had to call and call before she finally came out! Sometimes if she won’t come to just her name, I’ll yell “Rita, i need you!” and then she’ll come. She’s momma’s girl.

    • I don’t blame her if it was hot. My dogs have a good recall and I practice with them now and again. (Particularly when I have a high-value treat.) I love the fact that Rita will come when you really need her!
